Finding a Stud Without a Stud Finder

- Check beside outlets and switches. Electrical boxes are almost always mounted directly to a stud.

- Look near corners. There’s reliably a stud within a few inches of any inside or outside corner.
- Check for surface texture. Faint dimples or hairline cracks in drywall often sit directly over a stud, from nails that have shifted slightly over time.
